Wes Morgan (our pastor) speaks at the 153rd Georgia
Regional Assembly
November 15 - 17, 2002. Keynote
Address Introduction |
| 11/03/02 |
|
For centuries the first of November has been celebrated
in the church as a day "to honor all the saints, known and
unknown". In the New Testament, Christians referred to
themselves and to fellow Christians as "saints" (Ephesians
1:1). Here at First Christian we honor our members who have died
in the previous year in this special service.
On the first Sunday in November, we remember each of those saints by saying a
few words about them and by lighting a candle. We thank God for
each of them and the faith they shared with us. Remembering the Saints

From Sunday 10/7 through Saturday 10/23, the First
Christian Church of Conroe hosted its first families as a part of the
Montgomery County Interfaith Hospitality Network. We transformed
our classrooms into family bedrooms, cooked breakfast and dinner,
entertained our guests, and drove them to look for jobs. It was a
great experience for all. The workers were too numerous to
mention, but special thanks to Bobbie Harris (and her main helper Si
Harris) for coordinating everything for that week. Those who
helped were touched by our guests and thankful for the opportunity to
reflect God's love and care through them. To our guests we say,
"Good luck and may God bless you and keep you forever more."

On September 2, 2001 Dr. Wes Morgan began his ministry at
the First Christian Church in Conroe, Texas. The service was
exciting as Wes shared communion with us at the "Welcome
Table". Wes confessed to being nervous but we didn't see
it. His message was meaningful and interesting as he talked about
the importance and significance of Jesus breaking and sharing the bread
as we did with Wes and each other.

Today we gave thanks for the
Interim Ministry of Hiram "Doc" Jones as he shared with us one
last time from the pulpit a sermon titled "You Can't Go Forward
Backward - Facing the Future". We will miss him, his wisdom,
his caring, his spirit, and his spirituality. We will also miss
Annette, his wonderful wife. She too has blessed us. We are
all better for having known them. We wish them well as they
continue their walk with God.

Our evening Vacation Bible School this year was a joint venture with our brothers and sisters in Christ
from Tree of Life Lutheran Church.
This year's Polar Expedition helped kids of all ages to discover that
"Jesus' love is cool!" There were things to do for children
of all ages, including adults. It was a great time for
all.

After the recent flooding in the Conroe and the Houston
areas, we opened our family center as a Red Cross
donation and distribution site for clothes, bedding, cleaning supplies,
and other items for flood victims. Many of our church members, our
Outreach committee, led by chairperson Darlene Brown, and some
other volunteers received and distributed items Monday through Saturday,
June 11 through June 16, from 9 to 6 PM and on Sunday, June 17, from 8 to
3 PM.
The donations started pouring in on Sunday June 10 after
announcements were made at worship services at our sister churches in
the Conroe area that FCC was a Red Cross donation and distribution
center. Since then, many many people in our community have added
their donations also. Over $2,300 in cash has also been donated
and was used to purchase items that were still needed.
Hundreds have been helped and we are thankful for everyone in the
church and in the community who have given of their time and resources
to help our brothers and sisters in need. See pictures: Flood of 6-8-01

Dedication of the "Remembering Walk". The
walk is a short trail through the woods with rocks along the
trail. On the rocks are the names of persons that have gone to be
with our Lord. The entrance is at the left side of the entrance to

southwest corner of the family center. See pictures of the
